Printers
The following lists are of the printers connected to the network.
The "Available" printers are the printers that should be used.
Available Printers
*The driver links for dolphin and sailfish still link the drivers for the
DocuPrint? N32.
These drivers will work. However if possible please use the Phaser 5500DN drivers.

How to install a printer:
For PC-
For Windows2000 and WindowsXP type operating systems use Section 1. For Windows 95 or 98 use section 2. For Windows NT, use section 3.
1. Windows 2K/XP
Part A
- If you are administrator go to Start->Settings->Control Panel.
- Double-click on 'Add/Remove Programs'
- Click on 'Add/Remove Windows Components' button on the menu to the left side of the window.
- In the new window scroll down and make sure 'Other Network Files and Print services' is checked, if not check it and click next and it will install automatically.
- Click Finish.
- Click 'Add/Remove Windows Components' button on the left again, click on 'Other Network Files and Print services' and Make sure 'Print Services for Unix' is checked.
- Click OK , Cancel, and exit the add/remove programs list via 'X-button' on the top right corner.
Part B
- Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Printing and Faxes
- Click Add Printer
- Click Next
- Click Local Printer and UNCHECK 'Automatically detect and install my plug and play printer', click NEXT
- Click on Create New Port select Type : LPR Port (if you do not see this then do Part A), click NEXT
- For 'Name or Address of server providing ldp' section type in printer.cis.rit.edu or guppy.cis.rit.edu
- For 'Name of printer or print queue on that server' section type in the printer that you want to print to. eg. dolphin, sailfish
- Click OK
- Now you can do either 1 or two things depending on the age of the OS that you have.
- 1. Choose the printer driver from the list that the wizard gives you and choose the type of printer from the tables listed above.
- OR
- 2a. Extract the downloaded drivers into a folder, or follow the .exe instructions.
- 2b. Click 'Have Disk...' button and find the drivers that were downloaded select the proper driver for the proper printer and then click next
- The 'Printer Name' should be the name of the printer, and select if you want it to be the default printer or not. Click NEXT
- Click 'DO NOT SHARE THIS PRINTER' (THIS IS A MUST), click NEXT
- You can print a test page if you would like decide, and then click NEXT
- Click FINISH
- Done
- Make sure to SetupDuplexPrinting
2. Windows 95/98
- Download the post script driver associated with the printer that works with your operating system. Common places to find the driver is to search at the HP, Xerox, or Kodak websites.
- Extract the downloaded drivers into a folder, or follow the .exe instructions.
- Go to settings, control panel, Printers and scanners.
- Add New Printer
- Add Network printer
- Insert the address as shown in the tables.
- Click install manually, and have disk.
- Find the drivers from the folder the drivers were extracted to.
- Select the printer you want to install and you are done.
3. Windows NT
Part A
- Right-click Network Neighborhood, and then click Properties.
- Click on the Services tab, and then click on Add.
- Click on Microsoft TCP/IP Printing, and then click OK. Insert the source CD-ROM if you are prompted to do so.
- Click Close, and then restart the computer when you are prompted to do so.
Part B
- Click on Start, point to Settings, click Printers, and then double-click Add Printer.
- Click My Computer, and then click Next.
- Click Add Port.
- In the Printer Ports dialog box, click LPR Port, and then click New Port.
- In the Name or address of server providing lpd box, type the Domain Name System (DNS) name or the IP address of the host of the printer you are adding.
- In the Name of Printer or print queue on that server box, type printer.cis.rit.edu:printer name you want
- Click Close, then Next.
- Click the appropriate driver.
- Type the name of the printer, then click Next.
- Click Do not share this printer.
- Print a test page.
- Click Finish.
For Mac OS X-
Download Drivers
- The drivers for the specified printers should be located via web browser or ftp at the following address : ftp://ftp.cis.rit.edu/people/jim/printers/
- Download the needed MacOS X drivers.
- Extract and run the installers for each of the needed drivers.
Setup Printer
- Go to the Desktop.
- From the top menu, select 'Go'->'Utilities'.
- Double-Click 'Printer Setup Utility'.
- Click the 'Add' button.
- Select 'IP Printer' from the top of the window.
- Enter the information for the specified printer as seen in the chart at the top of this page.
- Example setup for sailfish in the DIP lab:
- Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
- Address: printer.cis.rit.edu:sailfish
- Queue: sailfish
- Name: sailfish
- Location: DIP lab
- Print Using: Xerox
- Xerox DocuPrint N32 (Selected from list box that appears after selecting Xerox)
- After the fields have been entered, Click Add.
- The printer should now show up in the setup utility.

Note for OSX 10.3 and later
- If your drivers state that an OS9 system folder is needed, simply use StuffIt Expander to extract the files inside the driver installation file (PPD file) and use the extracted file to install the drivers.
For Linux-
- Have yet to perfect an installation that can print a full page.
Xerox DocuPrint N32 (Sailfish and Dolphin) Maintenance Kit Reset
- Power Off the printer.
- Hold down keys 2 and 6 at the same time and power on the printer.
- Continue holding down keys 2 and 6 until the message "IOT?" appears.
- Within 5 seconds after the "IOT?" appears, hold down the 0 and 5 keys at the same time until the message "Reset Complete Please Reboot" appears. This message confirms the counter has been reset.
- Reboot the printer by powering off then back on.
Xerox Phaser 7700 (Tang) Maintenance Items Reset
- The Transfer Roller, Accumulator Belt and Belt Cleaner Assembly must be manually reset when they are replaced
- Go to "Menu"
- Go to "Supplies Info Menu"
- Scroll down near the bottom and select "Reset * Life" where * is the maintenance item that need to be reset
