Metadata Catalog Project

The project URL is: http://www.isi.edu/~deelman/MCS/

They've developed a Grid service for metadata management. Their first paper on their website claims its contributions are:

  • A description of metadata services requirements in Grids
  • A placement of metadata services in the context of service rich environments such as the Grid
  • A description of the data model supported by the service and the interfaces it exposes
  • An evaluation of the alternative implementations of the service: Metadata Catalog Service (MCS)

The MetadataCatalogProject seems concerned with indexing the data. The StorageResourceBrokerProject seems to be concerned with actually retrieving the heterogenous data.

I haven't finished reading the papers yet. But, that's mostly because I'm backtracking a bit to see exactly what they mean by Grid computing. It seems like they're refering to a very specific implementation of grid computing. Relevant footnotes in their papers are:
