• Symmetry2Locations.pdf: This file shows the approximate location of the symmetry target for each trial in the image, and in RITCode coordinates

• SymExp1Stim.zip: These are the 28 images used in 'Symmetry1' - locations on horizontal meridian

• SymExpt2Stim.zip: These are the 23 images used in 'Symmetry2' - locations throughout image

• New_(Off_or_different_types)_Symmetry_Pictures.zip: New (Off or different types) Symmetry Pictures.zip

• _matching_2.0.zip: Different percent matching symmetry 2 pictures

• Need to run fixation program on results to get symmetry values for each location fixated
• Run various region of integration sizes

• Moving to Sym Detector Format

• 1. Take File from Wiki “Symmetry2XYZ_Fixed” (or from Triselect)
• 2. Focus on last two columns (Y and Z… ada “xcoordTrans” and “ycoordTrans”)
  • a. Remove every fixation after “First Target Fixation” for each of 23 trials
  • b. In column AA to the right of the coordinates, Add “Stimulus” for each of the 23 coded location clicks of “stimulus location” (at the beginning of each trial)
• 3. Copy last three columns (Y, Z, and AA)
  • Start after "Stimulus Corners" at the first “stimulus”
• 4. Open new Excel Fixation file with participant initials "XYZFixations"
• 5. Paste the two columns (Paste Special – Values)
• 6. Save as .txt file (tab delimited) “XYZFixations”
• 7. Upload to wiki

• Running through Sym Detector

• 1. Save XYZFixation.txt to Plasma. Folder “symmetry stuff” on interns desktop
• 2. Open Matlab, change current directory to “symmetry stuff”
• 3. Create Images for comparison (ask Andy for exact numbers he wants to run)
  • input: symmetry_detector(rx, ry)
    • rx: integration window horizontal value
    • ry: integration window vertical value
• 4. Compare participant results to images
  • • input: Create_symmetry_results(‘XYZ’,rx,ry,uncertr)
    • XYZ: participant initials
    • rx, ry: same values as above
    • uncertr: radius of uncertainty value
• 5. Move output (a bunch of new files created) to other folder on desktop “Symmetry2 Results” as one zip file

MATLAB Symmetry Detector

• symmetry_detector_smk.m: editted symmetry detector written by Andrew, calculates symmetry within elliptical window for every pixel
  • outputs a black and white image of values 0 to 1 where lighter regions (closer to 1) represent more symmetric regions (1 = perfectly symmetric)
  • takes about 40 minutes to run on a 768x1024 image

• max_in_circle.m: code to determine the maximum value in a circular region of an image around a specified point
  • input: symmetry image (output of above symmetry_detector), radius of uncertainty region, and fixation point (point in image to determine max symmetry around)
  • output: max symmetry (image) value in specified circular region around point
  • NOTE 1: must take into account coordinate system differences
  • NOTE 2: can EASILY change "max" to "median" or "mean"...
